Welcome to The Apothecary at Midnight Oil!
The Apothecary, which is a nod to Chinese Medicine shops I used to visit with my family when we were younger. There were always things to ooh and ahhhh at, smell, touch, and eventually taste (sometimes to the dismay of my brother and I). This space is meant to be super approachable, neighborhood vibes, inviting, and encouraging people to rub elbows, clink glasses, and share stories. The cocktails, with the oversight of our Bar Director - Sherwood Souzankari - has been a super fun collaboration with our bar team, with each of them contributing to the program.
The food at The Apothecary is a mix of fond memories growing up as a son to Chinese immigrants (both of whom fled China in 1949 when the Communist Party overthrew the democracy : my father from Guangdong to Hong Kong and my mother's family, who were high ranking military including our Grandfather who was a 4-star General with Chiang Kai Shek, fled to Taiwan to establish the new democracy there). We would huddle around the dining table for family gatherings, sometimes up to 30 plus guests, and take turns hand wrapping dumplings. On some special occasions, we would go to our favorite Dim Sum restaurants and take over large private rooms spanning 3 to 5 large tables. The menu is a bit of an ode to those times and the hopes of carrying on that tradition. Bring friends and family and share!
